Nieman Reports, a quarterly magazine about journalism, is planning to do an issue on women in journalism. What IS the state of women in journalism? Is technology a help or a hindrance? I'd love to talk to JAWS members of all ages: What are the most crucial issues for women in journalism today? Can you point me to pertinent research?
As for my own background, I've been reporting and editing news and features for 3 decades, mainly for daily newspapers but also online. In addition to my work at the Nieman Foundation, I write a weekly column in the Books section of The Boston Globe. The Nieman Foundation, by the way, in addition to offering fellowships at Harvard for the academic year, now offers short-term visiting fellowships for journalists working on key projects. The application deadline for 2014 fellowships is Nov. 8.
