Melissa lives in Cambridge, Mass, where she is writing a memoir about Ludtke v. Kuhn, her federal lawsuit against Major League Baseball to secure equal access for women sports reporters. She is also producing a documentary film with video shot on her daughter's recent trip back to the rural town in China where she was abandoned as a baby after being born a girl. Melissa was featured in an ESPN documentary "Let Them Wear Towels} that was part of the its Nine for IX series about women in sports broadcast this summer. She is the former editor of Nieman Reports, a magazine and website about journalism published by the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.  She is a longtime journalist—Sports Illustrated, CBS News, Time — and the author, "On Our Own: Unmarried Motherhood in America," published by Random House in 1997.
